Let me ask y'all something. How many different products are you putting in your microlocs every week?

A moisturizer, an oil, a foam, a leave-in conditioner, maybe something for frizz. Before you know it, you've got five or six products in your routine, and you're not even sure which ones are helping.

I recently did a virtual Microlocs Care Review with a client in South Carolina, and one of the things we talked about was keeping her routine simple.

Sometimes you don't need another product. You need a better understanding of what your hair actually needs.

And that's something I want us to talk about in this group.

Let's talk about something I see far too often.

You take down your box braids and get a sew-in. Then you switch to crochet braids, faux locs, kinky twists, and right back to another style.

But when are you giving your natural hair the attention it needs?

In this video, I'm talking about what can happen when we keep switching protective styles without properly caring for the hair and scalp underneath.

Protective styling isn't the problem by itself. It's the tension, repeated manipulation, neglected moisture needs, and sometimes leaving styles in longer than your hair can tolerate.

Some people wash their microlocs weekly, while others wait until their retie. What works best for you?

Do you wash your microlocs weekly, every two weeks, monthly, before a retie, or whenever your scalp feels like it needs cleansing?

Has your routine helped with buildup, itching, dryness, or frizz?

Answer:

There is no single schedule that works for everyone. Your scalp, activity level, products, and microloc stage all matter. The main goal is to keep your scalp clean without creating unnecessary dryness or buildup.
